1. Installation
Get the zip file from the site where you purchased the preset. You can unzip this using WinRAR, 7-zip, or Bandizip.
Copy preset file to: This PC > Documents > Adobe > After Effects (Your version) > User Preset.
If After Effects is already running, please close it completely and launch it again.
After After Effects is turned on, you can find it under
"*Animation Presets > User Presets" in the
Effects & Presets panel.
2. Before Use
You must change scripting engine to ‘Legacy Extendscript’. To change this, in the 'File' menu click on the second 'Project Settings' from the bottom to open it.
Then go to Expressions and select ‘Legacy ExtendScript’.
3. Apply Preset
Create a text layer or use existing text layer. Then set anchor point to center of text layer (Ctrl+Alt+Home or Right click layer > Transform > Center Anchor Point in Layer Content).
If you want to use a custom Anchor Point, you can skip this step.
If the text alignment is not 'Center text', temporarily change the alignment to 'Center text'. After aligning the Anchor Point to the center in the above method, you can apply the previously set alignment.
Drag and drop the preset onto the layer. Alternatively, with the layer selected, double-click the preset or use the FX Console like to apply the preset as you like. Ta-Da! Preset applied.
4. Features Guide
Free version has very reduced function but lightweight. If you do not need the features of the Pro version, I recommend using the Free version.
To summarize the features of the Free version: https://youtu.be/oLcpK4BIDyQ
The Pro version is a version that adds some useful features to the Free version. I think most of the text boxes imagined through the Pro version can be produced.
If you want to see the features supported in the Pro version at a glance, please watch the following video: https://youtu.be/eaOSOzfA8sk
Free version
Box Width/Height
You can change the Textbox width and height. Default value is 20.
Modifying these values will increase or decrease the additional height or width. Lowering the value below 0 can also make the box smaller than the text layer.
Anchor Point
Basically, the Anchor Point value of the layer is read and used. However, if you turn off Use Layer Anchor Point, you can directly manipulate the Anchor Point value within the control to specify its position. You can only animate the moving box by keyframing it here.
Clip Source to Textbox
If you check the Clip Source to Textbox item, you can make the content of the layer visible only inside the box.
Box and Text colors
You can change Box and Text color. You can swap box and Text color too.
← Swap OFF
← Swap ON
If you don't want the text color to be adjusted by the controller, you can delete this item ←
Border
If you drop the Border menu, you will see a menu where you can add a border around the textbox. Check the Use Border item to enable it and change the Thickness and Color to decorate it as you like.
Can I use features like 3D layers or camera?
Of course! 3D position and rotation, and even the camera, all work flawlessly (included in the free version). Of course, it blends in perfectly with the other 3D layers.
Pro version (Includs all features of free version)
Align Box
You can align a Textbox to a paragraph of a text layer. In the Left and Right options, there are also Top and Bottom options for vertical type.
Italic Box
By adjusting the value of Italic Horizontal, you can give the box a skew as if it were skewed. There is also a Vertical option for vertical types.
Roundness
Expand the Roundness Control item to reveal the option to make the Textbox rounded. If you adjust the Roundness item here, the corners of the box will be rounded as much as you give it a value.
If you clear the checkbox that displays the four corners, the deselected corners will be turned into right angles. This allows you to round only the corners you want.
If you check the Do not curve item, the selected corners are cut diagonally instead of being rounded.
Box Gradient
Expand the Box Gradient item to display a menu that allows you to give a gradient to the Textbox. Checking Use Gradient activates the gradient, and you can adjust the gradient width and up/down position as desired through the Gradient Softness and Gradient Position menus, respectively.
Border trim path
Options are added to the Border drop-down. By adjusting the Trim Path Start and Trim Path End items, you can draw borders only where you want them.
